More tourist accommodation needed in Prague

Following floods which caused severe damage to the area in 2002, the local government in Prague is aiming to regenerate the Troja district to bring in a greater number of tourists.
This area of the city boasts Prague Zoo - the second most popular tourist attraction in the capital - but two additional sites remain largely undiscovered by visitors, Radio Praha reports.
To promote the Troja District, the local authority is to launch the Troja Card in April, allowing visitors to enjoy the zoo, the Botanical Gardens and the Troja Castle at a reduced price.
Commenting on the new initiative, Petr Fejk, director of the zoo, said that the three attractions have the potential to increase the number of tourists visiting the area each year to two million.
However, according to Mr Fejk, property investment in the district is needed to create accommodation and to help drive tourist numbers up.
"We have a big problem and that is the service around these organisations," he remarked.
"Next year, a flood barrier system will be invested in and with the presence of the barrier we will be able to build new streets and a new parking system."
The Czech Statistical Office recently reported that the country's construction sector grew significantly last year, with Prague's suburbs seeing an increase in the number of apartments and new homes being built.
The capital city remains popular with tourists seeking to experience its history and architecture, as well as its vibrant nightlife.
