In a move which could be of benefit to foreign property investors, the Czech Republic's tourism agency is throwing its weight behind the country's growing golf industry in an effort to attract more tourists to the region's courses.

CzechTourism has pledged to increase financial support for the industry by providing significant investment in promotional campaigns to help the country's golfing resorts to draw a greater number of visitors.

Speaking to Czech Business Weekly, Helena Kopecka, PR manager at the agency, said: "The Czech Republic could soon be an attractive destination for tourists who are looking for package tours that include golf and sightseeing, or for business travellers."

Ms Kopecka estimated that between 5,000 and 10,000 foreigners arrive in the country to play golf each year, adding to the country's existing 23,000 local players.

Having been recognised as the Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year by the International Association of Gold Tour Operators last year, Rostislav Vondruska, general director of Czech Tourism, said that the industry's rising profile provided a number of business opportunities.

"Winning the award brings … the responsibility to [appropriately] respond to international interest on a national level," he told the newspaper.

The overall rise in the number of tourists visiting the Czech Republic is likely to attract a significant number of foreign property investors, according to a recent report.

Colin Waddell of CB Richard Ellis told the Prague Daily Monitor that many investors and real estate firms are purchasing hotel properties to capitalise upon the growth in tourism experienced over the last few years.
